Should I do my waiver myself?

Allan S.posted 8 years ago

My Record suspension has been completed and I did It myself. My waiver makes me nervous However, immigration lawyers are expensive. Is the process easy? My pardon was easy and I hear it's more difficult than the waiver. Help!

Replies (recent first):

This is an accredited lawyer that did this for you? :)

Hey, Mr.Vancity

I am trying to do my waiver alone and it's way too stressful. I am from Vancouver aswell and I am looking for a lawyer to help me with my waiver. If you don't mind me asking.. which lawyer did you use? I am exhausted from stressing about this.

I agree with Figman. Keep a copy and duplicate it every renewal time. I had a lawyer do the first one for me, and he gave me a copy, and the 2nd and the 3rd one I have done myself.

It's a waiting thing that bothers most people, but eventually you'll get a waiver sooner or later.

Cheers!

Allan S. congrats on your record suspension. You can certainly do your waiver without a lawyer. You must be sure to be complete and thorough with your submission. Any errors and they will bounce it back to you. However if you navigated a record suspension by yourself I am sure you can handle a waiver. The only benefit of having a lawyer do it would be if they know someone inside the Office of Admissibility and could find out where your application is. Otherwise it's wasted money, you can do it yourself and not have to pay a lawyer. Once you've done it once keep a complete copy of everything you did and just replicate it every time. Just remember that it can take up to a year and sometimes longer to get approved for a renewal so plan accordingly. And remember.... never book a trip to the states without your waiver IN HAND. Every time I thought I would be fine booking in advance my waiver did not show up in time. I've missed spring break twice over the last few years because of it.
