wait time for criminal record check?

Annetteposted 9 years ago

I went to my local RCMP detachment in mid October and had the digital fingerprints done and paid for the criminal record check. The officer said its a quick process, should have something in the mail with in two weeks. It is now 5 weeks, and I when I go to gov website, it says the wait can be 120 days??
I'd like to know what other peoples experiences are, how long have you had to wait for your criminal record check to arrive?
Thanks in advance

Replies (recent first):

Mine took about that long; four months or so. Not sure why the delay, as the first time I did it it was only a few weeks.

Its been almost four months and a half..no prints..more than one charge although very minor so maybe this is why..playing the waiting game. Submitted electronically with a accredited company. Good Luck to all

If you have a criminal record ( and we all do or else we wouldn't be applying for a waiver) some wait times can be up to 120 days.

The only way to get your RCMP prints back sooner is to have no criminal record or a pardon.

I'm on my fifth waiver and have had my prints returned in the mail within a week!!

I have a Canadian Pardon...had my fingerprints electronically sent from a fingerprinting service in Mississauga and returned 7 days later in the mail this last application in Dec/15.

@Peter K
How did you manage to have a chat with the head of that unit?

As of last year the RCMP only accept electronic finger print checks. That said I had a chat with the head of that unit last year. He was a very pleasant fellow. When you submit your fingerprints electronically you will get a response back "within a few days" if your prints don't turn up a criminal record.

If they do come back as having a record then the processing time can vary tremendously. It is no longer an automated process. Your prints will be reviewed and matched by a person. So that can and will take time. My first request back in the paper days took almost 6 months to arrive. The second request done electronically took about 6 weeks but note that it can take longer. Everything about this process will require patience.

If they sent it electronically it shouldn't have taken more than a few days. You should check to make sure your address is correct. http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/time-temps-eng.htm
